A large number of Rotherham schools and settings have attended Charter First Steps training and some have already achieved or are working towards, Charter Gold accreditation, demonstrating:

- Working together to support your child or young person to achieve their full potential
to make the principles happen.

Welcome and Care
They will welcome and care for you and your child or young person by:
- Making sure your voice is heard and valued
- Providing a happy, secure environment
- Celebrating strengths and achievements
Value and Include
They will value and include you and your child or young person in every aspect of what they do by:
- Having a ‘Can do’ approach
- Involving you indecision making processes
- Being creative and flexible so that they can respond in the best way to individual needs and changing circumstances
- Identifying needs early and welcoming your involvement at every stage
Communicate
They will communicate with you and your child or young person openly, clearly and honestly by:
- Making time to listen calmly and respectfully
- Responding promptly, following up and reviewing regularly
- Providing all the information that you need in good time, in a form that you will understand
- Using positive and constructive language
Partnership
They will work in partnership with you and your child or young person to enable them to be the best they can be by:
- Valuing your contributions as genuine partners
- Working together to support your child to achieve their full potential
- Encouraging your participation
- Asking you to help them to be even better
